plan out EVERYTHING. This is important for you and your prospective lessons connections. Effective planning will keep you above water and prevent drowning (burnout)!!! Choose what schools you are considering, when you are going to meet the professors, and find out when their auditions are! Plan your practice schedules to balance music audition preparation with real life- phew!!! We got this bestie.

2~ RESEARCH 👩‍🔬
this is my permission (not that I have any authority) for you to be an internet stalker. Lots of programs have awesome flute studio instagrams that are often promoting their school, assistantships, their flutists in the studios, and showcasing their dynamic as a studio! Instagram is becoming a great outlook for networking :) but caution ⚠️ Instagram is NOT real life, lol. more importantly, deep dive on their school of music’s website. Research the professors and determine what you are looking for in a professor to learn from. This looks different for everyone and what gaps you are trying to fill personally.

3~ PROSPECTIVE LESSONS 📅
As I just said, this looks different for everyone. Prospective lessons are brief 30min-1 hour long lessons with flute professors from a school you are touring or showcasing interest in. When reaching out to a professor it is non-negotiable to communicate professionally with NO grammatical errors! This is step one when reaching out to a school you are interested in! Find a time that works for both you and the professor. Give a lot of time in advance, and after the lesson send a thank-you follow-up!

Our quintet symbolizes this as our instrumentation uniquely comes together to form one ensemble, or leaf through our significant color and personality. Lorilee, Sam, Landon, and Romy- Thank you. Thank you for welcoming me with open arms into what was supposed to be an explicit graduate wind quintet, but had to have the token undergrad. 🥹🤍 I am so so honored to have been able to learn, grow, and perform by all of your sides fortunately SO so many times this academic year. The National Flute Association is HIRING for an Office & Conventional Intern. This is a Chicago-based position. The intern will work in the NFA’s downtown Chicago office April-August before travelling to Atlanta to assist at the NFA convention. This is a paid internship! This internship is funded by a Youth Employment in the Arts (YEA) Grant from the Illinois Arts Council. Because of the nature of this grant, only applicants age 22 or younger are eligible to apply. Applications are DUE MARCH 1st!
